DRM is a big, fat target for every hacker in the world. I doubt very much it will ever be perfect. It can't be. It would be easy to encrypt music so badly that you couldn't play it. To allow legit users to listen to it means the key is already there. The hacker just finds it.

Not sure where else to post this but anyone else notice the little box at the bottom right corner that you can drag around for quicker paning? Pretty neat.

I dont believe that that will be an apple product.
Unlike the new powermac pics that some guy released and got flamed for, this has no background, no aqua interface, is very blurry, a icon that looks nothing like apple's apple icon, and most importantly, it really doesnt look like a product apple would design.
"to every truth there is a lie and to every lie there is truth"
I think apple is making a PDA/tablet/cell phone type thing, but this is in my eyes definatly not it.

It's been mentioned before.
I think it would be extremely unlikely, but anything is possible (especially with Apple).

Cannot do a clear case and keep the RFI rating it currently has, remove the metal box and the computer would get extremely noisy. And check on some of the clock rates to find out where to tune the your radio, tv, cell phone, etc. dial.
if i were good in creating stuff in photoshop, i would try to recreate my "dream" machine.
maybe someone out there would want to give it a shot. and recreate it.

Good for them updating, and boo-hoo for all the babies who complain they are screwing the early adopters. Where were these people when the DS Lite came out? If you early adopt you enjoy the system before others... if this makes someone who didn't buy a 360 get one, then that's great for everyone. In the mean time you had one and they didn't. You're paying a price for having it longer. Investments equal time. Imagine if I had bought my gamestop stock at 34 instead of 24? I paid to have it sooner, and I took a risk, too. Should I be upset at those who bought it lower than me because they got more reward? Please.
My only problem is that they want to make it "limited quantities." This will boost 360 sales, which is what the console wars seem to be based on. I think they should keep it around. Why not? I am considering a 360 because of Trusty Bell, and I want to be sure I can get an elite when that time comes!

I run hte BOINC manager on my pismo pretty much all the time. It's slow, but that doesnt bother me
Same here. I use BOINC Menubar (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/menubar.php), which divides CPU time between whichever ones you use. I run SETI@home, Predictor@home (http://predictor.scripps.edu/), and Einstein@home (http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/). That's in addition to using the Electric Sheep screensaver.
So don't limit yourself to just one distributed computing project, use BOINC (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/index.php)!

If you run a website to supplement your income, Adsense seems to be the flavour of the moment and for bewteen 1cent and $20 a click, with a 2 to 5% hit rate, you can make from between nothing to millions depending on how popular your site is. All well and good but I was reading this Motley fool article (http://www.fool.com/news/commentary/2006/commentary06060927.htm) and see that adsense is open to third party fraud, which is actually quite good for google in the short term, but bad for advertisers. Also later on, for Google it will become bad as the fraud dilutes the impact of their service. (This article is by Seth Jayson who wrote enough anti Apple drivel to convince me to sell my AAPL shares like $80 lower ago! so I dont really think he has much of a handle on the IT world, but he keeps getting published...)
Another tactic that caught my attention was the ad system on Daringfireball.net which has I believe just 9 ads on the whole site per month and there is a small consortium of bloggers using those same ads. I was reading the advertiser spiel and they get an insane number of hits per month between those sites. So if that is converted into sales, that sounds like a golden system that doesnt degrade the look of a site.
The subscription deal seems about the most lucrative and cleanest to operate, but possibly the hardest to get going. It requires a consistent standard of content, but it seems better business to struggle for one "click through" to your own paypal subscription sign up page for $10 than hope for 2% of 10000 visitors to click a generic ad paying 2 cents per click?
Anyone come across any other angles out there that might be worth a look?

Remember, we're talking about Motorola making the processors here...
Here's to hoping that all that rumored wattage and cooling capacity is really for a Power4 at MW. Here's something to think about.
We all agree that the current dual-gigs (and probably the dual-1.25's) don't need all that cooling and electrical power that is included in the mirror chassis, right? OK, now people are saying that it's because this chassis will be used for the new (power hungry and hot) G5's/Power4s.
So is it wise to put these fans and heavy duty power supply for the current PowerMacs when it's not needed? The cost will increase (good assumption) and the noise level is high (according to posts).
Something doesn't add up here. And me without my calculator ...

Mayte this is too logical, but the double your memory program is going until Dec. 31st. How likely is it that they would release a new product while that promotion is going? As hopeful as I am for a new PB release, I am now leaning towards MWSF.

Sounds like you have the script running for a dual processor machine on a single processor iMac. You should certainly only be crunching one protein at a time on that computer. So then, how do I correct the situation?

I'm not particularly surprised that there were no new product announcements, but I am kinda surprised that there wasn't the slightest acknowledgment of it on Apple's website (at least I couldn't find a word about it).
On the plus side, Apple did get a lot of free publicity from internet articles, newspapers, magazines, and TV giving Apple a lot of (mostly) positive, free-of-charge attention. In that backdrop, it's not hard to understand why Apple wouldn't want to provide a distraction from all of that by way of new product announcements.
On the minus side, Apple's 30-year and counting heritage in the industry is especially unique in that Apple has, pretty much from the very beginning, maintained legions of fawning, adoring, loyal fans who just don't buy the stuff, they also are quick to distinguish Apple's products from the competition to anyone who will listen on their own initiative - without any sort of prodding, nudging, or inducement from Apple. Most companies, notably Microsoft, couldn't buy a fan base so loyal and outspoken. It's also widely believed that the iCult(TM) single-handedly kept Apple alive when it was on it's deathbed in the mid 90's. It would have been nice to see Apple, if for no other reason than to recognize the loyality of it's fan base, acknowledge in some way the 30th year milestone on it's website. The Apple faithful would have eaten it up.
I kind of remember that Jobs pointed out the coming anniversary at this year's Macworld and remarked that they haven't decided what they were going to do about it. Well, looks like they are still thinking...or maybe not.

I mentioned this on the 28th in the mac general discussion forum. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10435
I found downloaded it and told people to look at the pdf files inside the stuffed folder, but nobody ever posted anthing in response.
For those of you who have not seen it it just has a small engineering scematic that says 1394b connector. It is not that informative abouit specifications just that it does exist. I will not post the files as per Arns's request.

Umm, the French Revolution was an ideological movement, in which Robespierre went overboard and enforced it violently. Apple Computer is a company that was co-founded by Steve Jobs, kicked Jobs out, and then got him back as CEO. How are they related at all?
I honestly can't think of anyway in which they're related, even distantly.
And by the way, I'm a history major.

" In addition, the console is being designed to provide a view of the most recent viruses found on each Macintosh within the network along with the 10 most prevalent viruses."
Ooo, that'll provide whole seconds of entertainment
So is the previous lack of this IT tool the reason my college IT department insisted on taking my PB from me for 12 hours and installing the anti virus software themselves?
It pissed me off to no end. I take it to them and tell them I'm a pretty advanced user, I think I can install it myself. The guy at the desk answers "yeah but we have to do it"
me - "why?"
them - "because you can't do it on a Mac, we have to do it"
I let it go at that. I was always told it wasn't proper manners to harm someone you've only just met. I'll find him later in the year...

Excuse the small tangent...
