Thanks for raising the noise question. My thoughts exactly. Since there wasn't a case redesign, I suspect the noise specs to be similar to G5.

Don't get too pumped up about this, everyone. The guys on TWIT were discussing these new Intel chips the other day and the indication from the first evaluation models is that the Mobile is not as much of a leap in performance over the previous generation as the new Desktop Core 2 Duo. I just bought a MBP 2ghz a month ago and as long as the rest of specs remain relatively unchanged, I'll stay happy with this model. :)

Don't apply the phone dynamic to Tablets. Android is not likely to take a lead in tablet market share for a long time if forever.
It really doesn't matter what the percentages are. At some point, the growth rate for tablets will start to slow down. By then, if you aren't already working on the next big thing, you're in trouble.
The point is that Apple is likely to be working to be working on that product already. The question is whether companies like Moto, Samsung, and HP are.

Merom in MacBook will not cost Apple more than Yonah and it will run cooler and faster even at the same 2GHz.

Do you have any idea how much slower your Cube is running because you haven't maxed out the RAM to 1.5 GB? Just by adding two 512 Sticks for only $140 will almost double your speed.
I did double the ram from 256 to 512, and didn't notice anthing, however upgrading it now would just be another reason for not upgrading to an iMac. Do you have any idea how much faster my iMac Ultra would be? I'm sure you do. ;)
I just don't see much point in upgrading a computer that I expect will only be useful for its hard-drive on a home network.

I think you missed my point about Yonah Macbooks. I want the price to drop. There is no point in me owning a Merom Macbook if I buy an iMac. The present Macbook is easily fast enough for writing essays on the train, wouldn't you agree?

Due to moving countries for a year I had to stick with my iPhone 3G. When I get home again in the summer I'd rather not be buying into a year old device. :(

It sound like this is some kind of add-on that was left in. Wonder if it was sanctioned by Apple higher ups or left there by the programmers. Its one file which does not phone home so its all possible unless I am missing something.
As for Steve well he may not be aware of what is going on but from his point of view Apple has no reason to follow you around, unlike Google which does make more sense. Still after the issue with privacy in the EU over Google Mapping of WiFi I would think they would be much more careful on things like this. :rolleyes:

Yes, you are correct - once you are in science or engineering. But how many children never get there because of a system that over-complicates even simple calculations. All it takes is a couple of bad years/teachers/experiences to put a kid totally off of math. Truly brilliant kids will likely overcome these set-backs, but most kids are not brilliant.... they are good to competent. And good to competent engineers are needed as much as the ones who put landers on the Mars... oh, wait wasn't there a problem with one of those that involved non-metric measurements? (what is the smiley for "snarky" and "tongue in cheek"?)
I can understand the intuitive justification of this argument, but I'd like to see something more rigorous before I accept it. My own intuitive sense is that learning measurement systems, while important to early child development, don't, in of themselves (i.e., imperial or metric), have a causal relationship with math and science success (or failure) in school. I think there are other much stronger factors to success in math and engineering. One example: "male malaise" in the UK and the USA (a general problem in elementary and secondary schools); also, public school math programs are not rigorous and set the bar relatively low.

haha you'll be FINE trust me. you bought a very high end laptop and it will happily run leopard. when apple introduces leopard it will want to get as many people as possible to use it, alienating owners of a macbook pro they bought a little over a year ago is not a path they will take.

Lg and Samsung both are completing multi billion $ plants mid 2011 for OLED panels that next gen iPhones and iPad's will use - Apple has already ordered over $7 billion $ of production to run on these lines.

A device already exists that does the work of a tablet PC - its called an iBook.

That's crazy - I just found that site recently when searching for a potential hire... Found the dude's address, parents' name, the fact he had a sister, and how much his house was worth. First listing in Google results, too. And I don't even have an account with it. That was the free information...
But keep in mind that the data might be wrong. I typed in my real name and it came up with me . . . but with details oddly wrong. Multiple accounts that could be me, but in each case with wrong data. I clearly have messed up some databases along the way (good).

Yes, because the iPhone was low res for a device you hold up to your nose and a typical consumer, which is what Apple design for, could easily see the pixels.
I am wondering how many typical consumers, when viewing at the distance you would view, say a 24" monitor, can make out individual pixels.
I do know Apple's font smoothing is a little, ummmm, shall we say, different to what Microsoft do, so perhaps typefaces do look more jaggy on a Mac than they do on a PC ?
