    Well they could...

However it would be a pain in the ass and more importantly you couldn't take a picture of it and have it look that good...

Possible, but a big waste of time.

i look at that and say... Now that guy is a Billionaire.
Then i get kinda depressed. lol

He wasn't doing too badly at the time, either. The Apple II had a huge marketshare at the time, and both Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were already very wealthy.

Actually...you need to read a few articles

Nothing needs to be re-written. All that matters is the actual Operating System. No programs, games, or anything else. If the OS can run it, and apps run on the OS, then it works.

    hahah, i laughed when i heard 2005

That's funny, but now that I hear it, doesn't really surprise me.

I'm not really sure I understand this whole UMPC concept. It's not a Pocket PC or a laptop. To me it just seems to take the worst of each. Not as capable as a laptop: no keyboard. Not as portable as a Pocket PC. What exactly are you supposed to use this for? What niche is it trying to fill? Seems to me, unless I can actually put it in my pocket (ie. don't have to carry a bag) then I might as well cary a fully-capable, lightweight notebook.

The article could just say "Drop the price" and it'd sell. Make it the same price as the DS Lite with a good sized memory card and I'll get one, or just do away with Memory Pro Stick Duo (or whatever) and use SD cards.
There's just some invisible line, consumers don't like paying more than a certain amount for an item. Handhelds the price seems to be 130+, consoles it's 300+

PSP & SoTN for 100 and I'd be a very happy bunny. I'd even buy Monster Hunter 2 and VCS if they were priced (in VCS case) alongside their PS2 counterparts.

The first part of you statement is not a very intelligent one. If you believe a law to be immoral or against the freedom of the people then it is your duty especially in this country to stand up against it, not cower away and create a separate place to dwell. If everyone took your stance then when major changes need to happen to our laws people would have gathered together to leave the country instead of trying to work and fix the problem and raise awareness of the problem.

Yes, they would. Most countries are started because the old one was unjust or inadequate in some regard. Working to change the law is not the same as breaking the law. You have every right to write to your Congressmen, lobby whomever you'd like, and voice your protest against the law. You do not have the right to break it.

Bound? Yes. But that does not mean I abdicate my responsibility to T-H-I-N-K for myself. You seem to be happy letting those who pass laws think for you. I care about my own life and sanity a bit too much to let others tell me how to live. Thank you very much.
You can think for yourself all you like, but the law is still the law. If you choose to break it, then you choose to break it, but that does NOT make the law irrelevant. You are breaking the law. That is my only point.

Glad you belive this junk. I don't. but then, I think for myself. You do make me laugh with the whole "protect the weak" nonsense. Let me guess, the RIAA are protecting the weak again those strong 13 year-olds who want to listen to free music. Riiiiight.

PS: Your basic social theory has led to a world order ruled by the strong over the weak
If you'd read more carefully, you would see that I didn't say that we aren't living in a society dominated by the strong. You would see that I was pointing out that no laws at all would make the situation even worse. The RIAA is not the government or the law. They might have successfully lobbied for it, but the law is well within their rights as the owners of the music. Take a step back and look at the rest of the law. Are murderers caught and taken away? When people steal something from you, are they not caught and not prosecuted? Do people regularly go around, shooting and stealing, with no one to stop them? The answer might be "sometimes," but with your "think for yourself attitude" the answer would be "all the time." People would do whatever they had the power to do, because there would be no consequences and no one to protect the weak at all. The main point of that part of my answer was to point out your argument failure: the fallacy of argument from ignorance (that your own evidence can be used AGAINST you, rendering it invalid).

By that logic, women would still not be able to vote. Look at other societies that do not allow people to protest "unjust" laws. Compare where they stand to where we stand. I am simply trying to take us further still down the road of freedom for all humans. Anything that acts to restrict the natural association of humans is a Bad Thing. DRM, by definition, falls into this category.
That, sir, is a load of crap. The law allowed only men above 21 to vote. Women were not covered in that. Therefore, the rights of women were constricted. This is not the case. You have "fair use" laws, and DRM laws to protect fair use. The DRM laws do not narrow your scope of access to those "fair use" laws--and if you have a problem with fair use, bring it up with someone who will do something about it. You also don't live in a society where you are not allowed to protest. Sit ins and marches during the Civil Rights movement were entirely legal forms of protest for the most part. "Anything that acts to restrict the natural association of humans" is NOT a bad thing. Again, the reason we have society is because we have rule of law. Restrictions on actions protect the freedoms of others who cannot secure those freedoms on their own. DRM has nothing to do with "the natural association of humans," either, so I don't know where you're going here.

Again, I am bound by these laws but I do not need to AGREE with them. Do you agree with them? [That is a direct question btw.]

All actions (free or not free) require sacrifices. So what is your point?
It doesn't matter whether you agree with them or not. You don't have the right to break them. I do believe in the law, I believe DRM protects artists in theory, and I do not believe that people have any excuse for breaking the law in this case. It is not a social injustice, it is not a repressive law, and it is not your natural right to do whatever you want with something that does not belong to you (the music of others). I believe that DRM is flawed because not every stereo, car, computer, music player, cell phone, PDA, internet appliance, and jukebox in existence is compatible with one another, making it difficult to listen to your music in all of those environments. But the competition is the best form of "free association" available: you're given a choice how to get your music. Not all of it works with all of your devices, but that part is up to you. If I buy a book written in Russian, it's my fault that I can't read Russian and assuming I can't translate it (which is very time consuming), I have to buy it again in English. That's the way it is, and it doesn't infringe on anyone's freedoms.

Option C (Something Different): Think for yourself and live life according to your own laws

I will take C cuz it allows for both A & B while reserving my ability to think for myself.
Neither options A nor B restrict your ability to think for yourself. What option C does is make you liable to punishment and prosecution. Live life how you feel is best, but understand that if and when you choose to break a law (we all do it, and speeding is a perfect example), you might benefit from it, but you also have to prepared to pay the fines when you get caught. Do I really care about people stealing music? No, I'm not the RIAA. Do I think it's ridiculous that people can rationalize it to the point where they think they're entitled to it, or that it's acceptable to break the law for their own convenience, or worst of all, that they're not really even breaking a law? Abso-freaking-lutely.

Yes you can put it in your list of login items, but this does not start it when you are not logged in. Or when others are logged in. The script makes to boot up so it runs even when no one it logged in. Its not a problem if you are always logged in.
Oh, I am, so I guess I'll just stick with it as a Login item.

I know it's very important to have progress but it would seem people take things to extremes. I know people who are buying PCs and they ask will a 2Ghz machine be fast enough for using Word? It's all just overkill.

    Dude,
Congrats on your 500Mhz powerbook, for which I envy you. However, for those of us who don't use a computer solely for wordprocessing, surfing the web, and other less-processor-intensive activities, speed is everything. The difference between 800MHz and 1GHz (or 1.25, which is unlikely) is vast in terms of the number of plug-ins available in audio recording applications like Logic, etc. I'm waiting for Apple to cross the 1GHz barrier in a G4 laptop (and I don't care whether it's an ibook or Tibook anymore, just give me the product!) so I can upgrade my dinosauric but beautiful 450 G3 blue and white powermac (matching 17" monitor, matching bondi 8x QPS cd-r, matching superdrive, matching bondi halogen desklamps from ikea, the whole frickin' deal, hoss...).

So, in other words, "overkill, my arse." Bring on the speed already, apple. duals in a laptop would be great, but won't happen because it will either or both: 1) cannibalize apple's powermac market; and 2) require a bulkier chassis for the powerbook. in light of the fact that apple's only true competitor is Sony's vaio line of sleek and stylish wintel boxes, it would be a surprise if apple ceded the sex factor to Sony by moving away from the TiBook's slickness and slim size. I would expect future versions of the Powerbook to be slim and stylish, not bigger and bulkier. certainly not for the purpose of cannibalizing other, profitable product lines.

    But I don't have a crystal ball, either... :-)

Am I the only one who didn't like gears of war? I just thought it was incredibly boring. I couldn't stand more than 1/2 an hour playing it.

A movie based on it? The only good game => movie crossover I can think of was the tomb raider movies, and they we're only slightly above average. The mario movie was fun in the stuipest sense, but not good in the least.

    I didn't like GeOW either.

Oh, and the Tomb Raider movies were among the better of video game based movies, but they were still pretty mediocre.

what's wrong with macdailynews?Read enough user comments there and my remark to Earendil will eventually make sense. :)
It was sarcastic humor, if anyone even cares. Actually MDN has been relatively calm and civil lately, especially without the political firestorms.

Btw, that's a classic clueless IT story, Earendil. It's both sad and comical how their strict, stubborn Windows-centric antivirus policy insisted on making unnecessary hassles for you with controlling, fearful, reactive behavior that exposed their ignorance about Mac OS X. Any negotiations under those circumstances can be hopelessly frustrating but getting too pissed-off only seems to counterproductively fuel their delusions. Good "luck"!

Right. But it still wasn't risky to reappoint Jobs as CEO. Changes are often viewed as risky, even when change is the only real way to survive.

it was a huge risk. Change is good but the changes Jobs did was radical and easily could of finish off the company.

Apple was on the edge of dieing any how and radical was it only hope. It was a last ditch effort. Huge gamble but when you dont have much to lose going big is worth it. They had to take a huge risk if they want to survice. It paid off for them. They went from a company bearly holding on to a very stable and strong one.

Welcome to the contributers guide to ExpoWiki.org (http://ExpoWiki.org).

ExpoWiki.org (http://ExpoWiki.org) is the Wiki for Apple Expo's, and Keynotes. We want to gather all the information about every Apple Keynote ever, so we are the ultimate source for information regarding Apple's events. We also will provide a link to a torrent file to download the Keynote we speak of. Each torrent file will be seeded by at least one dedicated server, along with whatever other natural seeds there are. Finally, there will be a torrent to download the entire ExpoWiki.org Keynote database. I would like make it clear that ExpoWiki.org is not responsible for off-site content, and will not be held liable in the event that there is an issue with a file one of our users has downloaded.

What we are looking for are contributers, to help us write up the information, about every Keynote. Because of the nature of Wiki, it is very easy for everyone to contribute, and we can get the articles we require quickly. To explain exactly what we are looking for, and need, a quote from my Welcome paragraph at ExpoWiki.org (http://expowiki.org):

Please, while you visit us in this early stage of development, contribute an article. Its simple and easy to do using wiki - you don't even have to be signed up! Simply search for the article name, using the search box on the left, to see if it already exists. If it doesn't, you will have the option to make the page. Choose this! Articles we are looking for tend to be titled with the name of the Apple Keynote, eg. "MacWorld San Francisco 2006". On the page, we are looking for any information about the Keynote - announced products, analysis, blow-by-blow account - whatever.

That pretty much sums it up - we need the content. Everything is welcome. We are looking for launch properly on April 1st - not only April fools day, but Apple's 30th birthday. It seems very fitting that we can have an archive of historic Apple moments being launched on this date.

If you have a bit of free time, and a little knowledge, then please, contribute.

    Thanks, and enjoy.
