Sharp unveils glass-based CPU prototype
[digitimes.com] 11:07
Sharp on October 22 unveiled a prototype of an 8-bit, 2.5MHz, glass-based central processing unit (CPU). Jointly working with Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL), the company has successfully formed microprocessor circuitry on glass 15mm square and 1mm thick by employing its continuous grain silicon (CGS) technology.
Sharp hopes its invention will pave the way to development of ultra-thin sheet computers and TVs. The company expects to have some products, like games machines or mobile phones, equipped with this type of glass-based CPU, available by 2005.
Sharp currently uses CGS technology to produce system LCDs, LCD panels with built-in driver IC circuits.Shih-wei Kao

I registered in does that make me old skool? :)
These days it seems like there are lot of new people, and still some older folks, and they tend to mix. I am also surprised at the number of new people coming, and the amount of time it takes to get 500 posts; it took my almost 2 years
It seems like we get a new user, they go on a posting rampage for about 6 months and get to the 2000 post count. Then they disappear, never to be seen again. Sometimes it really frustrates me, they're doing it for the post count. I'm at around 600 and it took years to get to this point. I post when I have something that I want to say, hopefully useful. If I never hit 2000, it won't make a difference to me, or probably to anybody else on the forum.
If I put in 10 good, resourceful comments total, that will have a much better impact.

He didn't actually say there would be no Apple PDA in the future. He "downplayed" the possibility. But he could bring out any device, PDA or PDA-like and that would not make him a liar.
That said, I believe it is fairly unlikely at the moment.
But if they call it an iWalk I am going to jump off a cliff. That would be so embarrassing.

Dont know if everyone has seen this yet, but apparently even though its a PC the designers have an Apple background. http://www.oqo.com/
an adaption of this makes more sense than a pda to me.

I installed Windows on a friend's computer the other day. I made FF the default browser and removed the icon for IE. I also configured it so that you need a password to make IE the default again :D
haha good job. I did a similair thing to my room mate. When I set up the pentium II she got for $40 I simply set fire fox as the default browser and hid IE from her. About a week later she was like "wow, fire fox is awsome!"

Yeah, I think this should maybe in the music forums.
But anyway, this is my "song of the moment." I love it! It's easily their best work although 'The Profit' is pretty cool too. Do you listen to much Jedi Mind Tricks? They're kinda similar.

I think they are very pro-Apple. :)
I remember when the nano was released. On News24, 10 mins after Job's showed the world, they had one in the studio showing people the new iPod.
I thought the BBC was none advertising and commercial.

When Alphatech was aboard MacRumors, he was awesome in 2001 and early great in late all right in early 2003... he's one of those people that takes no bulls*** from others. During 2001 and into much of MacRumors was a small community with few people at 1000 posts, and few stupid people/total newbs existed back then to get on his nerves. But what happened was he got fed up with people and/or newbs that didn't read his posts correctly, didn't answer his questions, tried arguing with him when he was right, etc., epsecially since the number of arguments that occurred/number of people that gave him a hard time increased. Effectively, he got real sick of it and moved over to the pub.

Yeah it looks like 360 online is the swinger. I'll go for that version I think.
2 more points - PS3- TrueHD
Other than that both are pretty much identical. Graphically you'd be hard pushed to know which was which, both are running at upto 1080p, ;) ;)

haha, I'd be amused if Apple gets so fed up with this guy that they release an iTunes+QT for Linux just to kill his argument.

Any recommendations for a 3rd party brand?
Just had the same problem choosing when I heard the idea of bluetooth mice and keyboards (maybe even by Apple).
But I got out and bought the latest Logitech MX700 cordless optical mouse. And I must say: IT ROCKS!!! ;-)
And the design goes really well with my black pro keyboard and 17" tft studio display. I would have bought a Logitech cordless/optical mouse earlier if the previous models wouldn't have been so damn ugly (especially the color).

OK. Just a friendly piece of advice and empirical observation coming from hours of tweaking G3s, G4s, G5s, P4s, Dual Athlons, and Dual Xeons for maximum efficiency.
I looked at your team, and it appears that the OSX group's numbers tanked, and remain low at near the same time Macrumors did, while more PC based groups do not show such drops. It may not be Tinker related, but it looks like the recent WU's being released by Stanford are not too Macintosh friendly.

Im not sure what your saying?
Im looking at the configuration below at the educational store, and a toal of $2658.80, either way I go Im going to have to lease/finance it as im not one of the most well off people but still need a laptop for school, work, etc...

Arn,
Old fake... I've seen that exact image before Spymac maybe???
I even remember the thread where people were talking about it. Either way the hoaxer fessed up and someone made a comment about 'nice touch adding the numbers on that white tape'... Well something like that was said... (this was early/mid summer I think)

He'd do fine. I do the same thing due to lack of time between life, college, and the Air Force. If I can do it, anyone can. ;)
I agree, I've played UO since 99' and ive gone through stages of just wandering around solo and hanging with guilds. In my experience once a guild gets too large it gets too political and there is too much BS around. I tend to stick to smaller guilds or on my own.
I think you will be fine, but in WoW i believe there are certain things that the devs require you team up for, i never liked the "on rails" feeling i got from WoW, i bored quickly from it.

Does anyone use Proteus?
how does that compare the fire and adium?
I use Proteus. I love it, The only thing that I see that it doens't do that MSN Messenger can do is have multiple people in one chat. Other than that it's AWEOSME!

This seems to me to be (possibly) adding up to a new crop of PowerMacs coming as of the first of the year.
But, then, what do I know? ;)
My guess is that Quark won't be ready and Jobs and Adobe have struck a deal promotind the best, most extensible, and advanced (not to mention osx native) page layout app out there.
You know? I can see it now: Apple's Left 9 behind. So have we. But what about Quark? Buy Adobe InDesign.....
You know?? It's an evolutionary thing. and no, there won't be any new pmacs until feb at least

How can you conclude this after I pointed out the performance edge given to the Power4 by it's large L3? Do you think that data goes nowhere on the PPC-970? If it's not in the 32 meg L3, it's in RAM, and the reason why the PPC-970 looses is because the RAM is slower than L3... hence we can conclude that memory performance matters.
I'd like to make a comment on the bus speed and memory interface of the 970....
If DDR memory is available at 900MHz (which it currently isn't) by the time we see--if--this CPU in an Apple computer, 900MHz DDR memory would nearly outpace the speed of a L3 cache, despite a greater distance for the information to travel (all the way to the system memory rather than a few millimeters to a cache).
Granted, 900MHz DDR memory will only find itself in video cards, and even then probably not for at least a year. Plus, it'd probably cost the equivalent of a kidney on the black market.
So, we'll probably see DDR400 or DDR533 by the time--if--the 970 winds up in Apple computers, which would still perform extremely quickly (roughly 1/2 the speed of an L3 cache).
