Indoor Street Art by Paul Baines |
Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:26 AM PST Señor Salme is a Spanish artist and illustrator who really whips the metaphorical ass of Photoshop, tooled to the hilt with a fine selection of brushes and a natural 'feel' for ink, you'd never be able to tell his work from the 'real' thing, i.e traditional pen and ink drawings. Drawing on a wide variety of inspirational sources including comic-book art, popular culture, symbolist painting and ancient mythology, Salme's taste for the obscure and sometimes bizarre really hits the proverbial nail on the head for me. It's as if each work is a frame from a storyboard of comic book, almost leaving you gagging for the 'next scene'. The sense of light and show and a beautiful if somewhat shapely line combines to make some of the most sultry and slinky comic art I've seen in a long while.
